Bar JW Anderson and JORDANLUCA, few other UK-based brands have taken to Milan Fashion Week quite like Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY. The Scottish designer’s shows are packed to the rafters, presenting performances that captivate onlookers beyond the usual fanfare as the glitterati appreciate the clothes in front of them. No, instead, Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY has created its own niche when it comes to a show, and Fall/Winter 2023‘s “WELCOME TO THE ENGINE ROOM” was perhaps the designer’s most enigmatic, mysterious, and absorbing offering to date. Now, following the first drop of the FW23 collection, comes part two — and it’s even more playful than last time.

Speaking on the collection to Hypebeast, Charles Jeffrey themselves said: “To me, this collection is a celebration of Scotland, of workers, the renaissance man, woman, or in between. It’s an opportunity to be authentic in a new space, it’s like meeting somebody new and putting yourself out there again.”

With this in mind, FW23’s second delivery is even more “out there,” with a John Byrne-inspired graphic-covered blazer stealing the show. The blazer is elongated, doubling as a cape-esque coat that layers perfectly atop grey checkered trousers and skirts, glove-accented knitwear, or goblin-themed sweater vests.

Elsewhere, we find the designer’s take on tartan decking out everything from kilt-dresses to anoraks, a “Scottish Basic” suit, clawed footwear, and a vest that could double as a straight jacket.
